Ladies Senior Foursomes Team reach Final, Sun 2nd July, 2017 @4pm

Our Senior Foursomes team had a great day out in Ashbourne today. A 9am start v Donabate saw the team begin their quest to achieve their first goal – to reach the semi-final. The game ebbed and flowed, because at this level you can expect matches to be tight. But playing with determination, Mags O’Connell and Louise Halpin put the first scores on the board for Newlands, and while the next win wasn’t secured until the 19th hole by Esme Murphy and Genevieve Tracy, the reward of a semi-final place was well-deserved.

A little break for lunch, and a few tweets (!) and the stage was set for the semi-final. 3pm saw us tee-up v Naas who, to be fair, started better and playing ‘solid’ golf, they edged in front and stayed there for most of the front 9. But this didn’t dent our confidence, and as our determination kicked in again, we began hitting more fairways, sinking more putts, and getting a few birdies. Orla Heffernan and Rebecca Carroll had a terrific win on the 18th, and as Esme and Genevieve came from 4 down to take their opponents down the 19th, it was Mags and Louise who closed off the match and put Newlands into the Senior Foursomes Final.

A proud Captain Siobhan congratulated Manager Grainne Friel, Assistant Manager Aisling Neil and all the team on their great achievement. It’s the next chapter in our history book she commented as she wished the team the best of luck in the final.

To the team we say, you can take plenty of confidence into that final, you have everything you need to win and we wish everyone involved the very best of luck.

The final takes place in Ashbourne –v- Lucan at 4pm, Sunday 2nd July, so for the Purple Army as they make their way to Ashbourne in support of their team, the #DashToAsh is on.
