What a win for our Ladies Junior Foursomes team ….

Another great day for Newlands with a win over Corrstown GC in our semi final matches played in Seapoint GC.

This was another super performance by our Junior Foursomes team, Patricia Heffernan and Denise Tobin, Frances Mayberry and Frances Mahon, Wendy Hogan and Deborah McCready, sub on the day was Rita Keane.

We have had exciting finishes in all our campaigns, but the manner of this win shows the calibre and determination of this team.  As we headed into the final holes of the third match, we were even with one match each from the first two matches.  Heading up the 18th, we were 1 down and our ball was in the bunker!  Wendy Hogan took a shot out of the deep bunker that Rory McElroy would have loved to be able to do in Portrush!  The ball hit the flag and dropped a couple of inches from the hole and with that we were all square and heading down the 19th hole.  A nail-biting finish got us over the line and we are now in the East Leinster Final which will be played in the K Club on the Palmer course on  1st September.

All the matches were played in great spirit and the players were a credit to their respective clubs.  The many supporters out in Seapoint were treated to fantastic golf played by both teams.  Many thanks to all who traveled out to Seapoint, it will be great to see all that purple again in the K Club in September.

Well done and congratulations to Managers Neasa McKiernan and Bernadette Flynn.

East Leinster Final will be played in the K Club, Palmer Course on 1st September 2019.

Louise was delighted with her win and commended the course staff on presenting the course in such fantastic condition.  Congratulations also go to Helen Conway who took the runner up spot with 38 points on a countback.  Well done to all the winners on the day.

The Mary McKenna team completed their home leg in the Leinster Final with great wins in all five matches. The team had a great day out at home on Thursday, 25th July and took all 5 matches against strong Skerries opponents on a beautiful day with the course looking its best.  As usual the matches were all played in great spirit and we look forward to the second leg which will be played in Skerries GC on Thursday 15th June.   Just one match needed to get us into the All Ireland Finals which will be held in Woodenbridge Golf Club in September.

Play in Pink for Breast Cancer Research

Many thanks to all who supported our PLAY IN PINK charity day on Tuesday 16TH JULY in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness.

The fund raising day was a huge success made possible by all the players on the day and all those who very generously supported our raffle.  Many thanks to Des Kenny and Greg Harkness who very generously donated our first prize of the Laptop computer.  We very much appreciated their support and the support of you all.  We collected the fantastic amount of €1680 from the raffle so including the golf competitions, we will be sending €2300 approximately to Breast Cancer Research on behalf of  Newlands.

The competition was won by Genevieve Tracey and Cliona Glendon with a fantastic score of 47 points.  The Overall Top 20 pairs from all the golf clubs taking part in the Play in Pink days qualify to play in the All Ireland Play in Pink Finals in Dromoland Golf Club in September.  Hopefully, Genevieve and Cliona will be representing Newlands in Dromoland.

The Men’s winners on the day were first place, Des Kenny and Brendan O’Sullivan in the runner up spot …. but they were all winners on the day looking great in pink.  Thanks to you all.

Junior Foursomes Complete the Hat Trick for Ladies Teams ….

The Junior Foursomes team completed the hat trick for the Ladies teams, beating a strong St. Anne’s GC side to win in Co. Louth GC (Baltray).  This course has been really good to us this weekend.   As the matches turned into the back 9, things started to go our way.  It was so exciting and great golf played by our three pairings of Patricia Heffernan and Denise Tobin, Wendy Hogan and Deborah McCready and Frances Mahon with Frances Mayberry.

All the supporters were out again to cheer on the team and hopefully made a difference when the players saw them out in the dunes.  Once again, the players were great ambassadors for our great club and we congratulate them on their win and wish them the very best of luck as they head into the East Leinster Semi Finals.

Well done and congratulations to Manager Neasa McKiernan and Assistant Manager Bernadette Flynn.   Many thanks also to the great army of supporters who certainly enjoyed the golf and another day out by the sea.

Semi Finals will be played in Seapoint GC and have to be played before 11th August 2019.  Opposition to be confirmed.

Ladies Junior Cup go through to East Leinster Semi Finals ….

Ladies Junior Cup go through to East Leinster Semi Finals ….

The Ladies Junior Cup team had an unbelievably exciting win in Louth GC (Baltray) against Woodbrook GC on Saturday 13th June.  As always in tough matches, it went down to the wire.  The last three matches headed down the 19th hole with one match going up the 20th hole.  As Louise Murphy sunk a putt on the 19th to win, Leonie Colgan was walking back down the 20th hole with her point in the bag!  So with Nessa McKiernan having won her match on the 16th hole, we could all breath again with all three points going to Newlands.

We were treated to excellent golf played by both Newlands and Woodbrook.  The matches were very tight all the way round and we are delighted that, at last, it was our day.  Great golf played by all and we are so proud of all the players who represented Newlands so well.

Well done and congratulations to Manager Siobhan Byrne, Assistant Manager Louise Halpin.   Also to players, Eva Coghlan, Leonie Colgan, Louise Murphy, Pauline Curtis, Neasa McKiernan,  sub, Grainne Friel.  And of course the hardworking caddies.  Many thanks also to the great army of supporters who certainly enjoyed the golf and a great day out by the sea.

Semi Finals will be played in Ashbourne Golf Club on 11th August 2019.

Mary McKenna Team Continue to Sparkle…..

Newlands vs Borris   – 10th July 2019

Well done to the Mary McKenna team who battled through not only the matches but also had to deal with all four seasons in the one day.  The matches were close all the way around with great golf being played by both sides so it was always going to be an exciting finish.  As usual, it came down to a putt on the last hole and we were delighted to see Bernie Keppel sink the winning putt and put Newlands into the Leinster Final.  The matches were played in great spirit and both teams were a credit to their respective clubs.

Well done to all the team, Patricia Heffernan and Denise Tobin, Marie Harpur and Mary Pat Prendergast, Bernie Keppel and Sophia McFadden, Carol Kiely and Madge Deane and Fionnuala Croskery and Ger Simpson, Subs were Anna Usher and Pat O’Leary.

Newlands in Sparkling Form in Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy

Newlands  vs Slade Valley  – 24th June 2019

The Mary McKenna team had a super win against Slade Valley on Monday evening.  No words could accurately describe the great golf that was played in the matches, the nail biting finish and the excitement of the win.  Anne Croft and Marie Fitzgerald put an early point on the board, winning on the 14th hole.  After that, the matches were very tight all the way round and so with two matches heading to the 19th hole,  Ger Simpson and Fionnuala Croskery won their match and our third point.  A hard earned point too, having come back from 3 down, to win on the 19th hole was very sweet.  Well done to a great team, Patricia Heffernan and Denise Tobin, Anne Croft and Marie Fitzgerald, Ger Simpson and Fionnuala Croskery, VC Loretto Keane and Frances Mahon, Bernie Keppel and Sophia McFadden, subs Pat O’Leary and Madge Deane, you were all absolutely brilliant, you represented Newlands so well and we are all so proud of you.

Congratulations to managers, Nuala LeGros and Mary K. O’Mahony, a well deserved win to book your spot in the Leinster semi-finals.

Our semi-final match will be against Borris, Co. Carlow, on Wednesday 10 July at 1:30 pm in Borris GC.
