A Bumper Day With a Difference…

I want to acknowledge with thanks the Sponsorship of Pinergy for this important event in our calendar and thanks to Esme Murphy who represented Pinergy on the day.

Congratulations to Angelique Scolard who was the overall winner with a great score of 28pts followed by Aisling Neill in Runner-Up place with 26pts.  Congratulations also to the Gross winner Rebecca Carroll with 21pts and to all the class prize winners on the day.

Due to restrictions there was no formal presentation of prizes but we had a presentation to the ladies via Zoom Link which turned out to be a great success.   Our Vice-Captain Carmel, whose prize was held on 12th September,  also presented her prize virtually to the winner Ciara Curtis.   It was great to see so many ladies able to join in.

Our Bumper day was to celebrate our years golf and, while it may not have been the year that was planned, we were so lucky to get some of our inter-club matches played.    We also managed to get all major competitions played.   We were also fortunate to get 3 Opens played with great numbers attending at each outing and I want to say a big thank you to Nessa Greene, Rita and Gabriel Keane from Kia Motors, Patricia Heffernan from Phillips Jewellers who sponsored our Open days and also Gregg Harkness and Padraig Fowley who sponsored our Invitations.    They were all a great success and I want to acknowledge their sponsorship again this year.

Unfortunately, we were not able to have our presentation of trophies, but I would like to congratulate and thank everyone for getting the matches played on time.  Sadly, it was not the time to invite those guests who sponsor our trophies to the club;  Nessa Green to present the Christy Green trophy in memory of her dad to winner Louise Murphy or Niall and Niamh Moore to present The Maureen Moore trophy in memory of their parents to winners Ann Hughes and Clare Delahunty.   I would also like to Congratulate Edel Tolan who won the Kellsboro trophy.  We also had one medal winner, Leonie Colgan, so hopefully, we will be able to invite them and have presentations later on in the year.   You are all very deserved winners.

Our pictures below shows our first Zoom presentation.

Mixed Invitation Tuesday September 29th

We are grateful to Padraig Fowley for his continued support. This year again
was a great success with 41 teams playing on the day. Congratulations to
Lylia Crossan, Aisling Neill, Tom Foley and Gerry Murphy who had a great score
of 67pts on the day.

Wednesdays Captains Prize to the Ladies

A big Thank You to John White who presented his prize to the Ladies on Tuesday 15th September, 2020.

It was the last chance some of us had to try and win that all coveted Major for 2020. Our Indian summer had arrived and there was great enthusiasm on the day. Unfortunately, it was short-lived for some of us, as some fantastic scores
that were recorded.

Eileen O’Driscoll was the outright winner with 42pts, closely followed by Marie Harpur with 40
pts. Eileen was delighted with her Golf Buddy Watch, though I hardly think she needs it……

Congratulations to all the winners on the day, and again ‘Thank you’ to John for the lovely prize.

Phillips Jewellers Sponsors ladies Open 17th September, 2020

Thanks again to our very loyal Sponsors, Phillips Jewellers, for their sponsorship again this year.   We have been lucky with getting our last Open played on Thursday 17th September  before further restrictions came and we are grateful to Valerie Phillips and our own Patricia Heffernan for their continued support.   Again, the weather was kind to us , and while 38 teams went out to play in our 3-Person Team event, it was the trio of Rita Morley, Edel Tolan and Christine O’Gorman with an amazing score of 95pts that deservedly won the beautiful prizes of jewellery (see above picture).   As always, we hope that you can show your appreciation to  all our sponsors by supporting them as much as possible.

Play In Pink

Captain Loretto presents cheque to Miriam Hand for €2,965 which was raised in our Pink Day on 14th July, 2020.

Miriam thanked everyone for their support  and said a huge Thank You to all members at Newlands for their generosity.

KIA certainly has the ‘Power to Surprise’

Another very successful Open was held on Thursday 20th August by the Ladies Section.   Thanks again to Rita and Gabriel Keane from Kia Motors for their continued sponsorship each year.

On Wednesday evening due to the extreme weather conditions, there were some doubts whether the outing would take place, but 37 teams(111 ladies) played in lovely, even if a little breezy, sunny weather.    Everyone was very complimentary on the magnificent way the course was presented despite the torrential rain on Wednesday.   A huge thanks to Gerry and his team for all their hard work ensuring that our course is in such great condition every week.

Congratulations to our winners on the day Orna Daly, Elizabeth Sheehan and Aisling O’Hara, all from Edmondstown Golf Club with a great score of 74pts.

Runners -up on day were Ger Simpson, Pat O’Dea an Clodagh Finnerty (Edmondstown) with 70 pts.

In Third Place was Carmel Bradshaw (Newlands), Patricia Wilson (Stackstown) and Miriam Morris (Craddockstown) with a score of 68 pts.

Our photos show Ger and Clodagh accepting their prize from our Sponsor Rita, and Captain Loretto thanking Rita and showing her appreciation by presenting her with a gift.

Light up your Darkness with Harkness!

Well, our Darkness was certainly lit up at our Club Invitation on Tuesday 18th November when Greg Harkness (Harkness Bros, Electrical) and Des Kenny (Frontline Mechanical and Electrical Services) sponsored our day.We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Greg and Des for the amazing prizes again this year, and indeed they are so generous and such a huge support every year to the Ladies Section.   There were many happy winners of prizes but our outright winners will be grilling with their amazing George Foreman grills for the rest of the summer.

Congratulations to the winners, Vice-Captain Jim Fitzgerald, Marie Fitzgerald, Nuala LeGros ad Vivian Giles who had an amazing score of 88pts

Esme is a very popular winner!!!!

There were great celebrations on Saturday evening when Captain Loretto announced her Captain’s Prize winner after the second day of her Captains Prize.   Winner Esme Murphy, playing off 2, was the popular winner within the whole club having scored 38pts on Day 1 and 37pts on Day 2.

This followed great excitement earlier in the day when Esme tee-off with her partners Mary O’Farrell and Madge Deane, followed in final 3-ball by Vice-Captain Carmel with 38pts, last years Captain Marie Harpur with  38pts and Captain Loretto’s daughter Grace leading with 40 pts.   They all played magnificently well over the 2 days with Esme just pipping them for victory.    Super achievement for Esme, where a large field went out to compete on two beautiful sunny days, which was a rarity this June.

Congratulations to all the winners on the day, especially Esme, who I hope enjoys many, many happy days wearing the prize.

Team of 3 Open Event Sponsored by Neasa Greene

A huge Thank You to Neasa Greene for sponsoring a very successful Ladies Open on Thursday 23rd July, 2020.  I’d like to congratulate our worthy winners Mary K O’Mahony (Newlands), Mary Kyne (Lucan) and Ann Marie Quinn (Dun Laoghaire) on a super score of 81 points.

We were delighted to welcome Neasa and her playing partners, Mary Joe McPadden and Mary Drake who had an enjoyable game.  Neasa said she was delighted to sponsor the day in memory of her Dad, Christy Greene, who had a long and special relationship with Newlands.  He treated Newlands Golf club, where he spent many happy days, as his second home.
Thanks to Gerry and his team for presenting the course in superb condition, despite a lot of rainfall the previous night and early in the morning.  Thanks also to Kanum Thai for the lovely food served to us.   171 ladies from various clubs played and all our members and guests had a very enjoyable day.  Picture below shows Captain Loretto presenting flowers to Neasa.
