Congratulations to Jake Whelan reaching Semi Final at South of Ireland Amateur Open

 

South of Ireland Amateur Open Championship 2019 at Lahinch GC.

Jake played magnificently in the Qualifying Round on Fri 26th and Sat 27th July to progress to the matchplay stage.

Round 1 had 64 qualifiers and Jake was drawn against Hugh O’Hare of Fortwilliam GC. The match went to the 19th Hole and Jake emerged victorious.

Round 2, with 32 players left, Jake drew the Championship favourite, James Sugrue from Mallow GC. Sugrue had played in The Open at Royal Portrush last week but found Jake too much to handle with Jake winning on the 18th.

Round 3 on Sat 27th July at 7.09am and Jake is up against Matthew McClean of Malone GC. Jake sinks a 20 foot putt on 18th to win the match and makes it to the Quarter Finals in the afternoon.

Quarter Final draw matches Jake with Hugh Foley of Royal Dublin GC. Teed off 1.00pm. Jake wrapped up an enthralling match with a 3 & 2 win to progress to the Semi Final on Sunday 28th July 2019

Jake was drawn against Keith Egan of Carton House  GC in the Semi Final. Keith won the clash 5 & 3.

Congratulations Jake on superb performances all week. You were top class and we are extremely proud of you in Newlands

Pierce Purcell Team Win Runners-Up Shield at Greenore

The Pierce Purcell Shield 2019 team had a fantastic win in Greenore on Sat  20th July to secure runners-up in Leinster and make the final against Cill Dara on Sun 21st July 2019.

After a nerve jangling match the final was tied at 2.5 – 2.5.

The deciding match went to the 22nd hole where Newlands were pipped.

Commiserations on a great Final, lads

Congratulations to managers Shay Brennan and Henry Costello as well as the entire Pierce Purcell panel for a superb campaign where they all represented Newlands in exemplary fashion. Well done on securing the Runner-Up Shield!!

Husband and Wife Winners 2019

Newlands again hosted another immensely successful Husband & Wife tournament on Sat. 29th July 2019.

We had a huge field of golfers. Competition was stiff with Aislinn & John Nolan taking top honours with a score of 45 pts.

The day was capped off with a super dinner in the restaurant.

Congratulations to all the organisers … and to all the winners!

 

Men’s Winter League & Club Invitation Winners

 

The first Prizewinners Presentation Night of 2019 was held in the Clubhouse on Sunday 12th May.

Captain Lex presented prizes to the Winter League trophy winner, Paul Greene, along with all the other Class winners, runners-up and third places.

The 4 club invitation team winners, runner-up and third places also received their prizes along with the 5 Hole-In-One winners.

Newlands Win in Barton Cup. Metro and JB Carr Teams Exit

Over the May Bank Holiday weekend Newlands had mixed results in the Inter Club Competitions

Barton Cup

Newlands GC beat Citywest GC 3.5-1.5 in the 2nd Round of the Barton Cup on Sunday 5th May.

At home Cian Coghlan & John Scolard won 6&5, Ciaran Curtis & Dylan Harbourne won 2 Holes.

Dermot Bradshaw & Charlie Connell AS on 18 (Match called in)

Away, Dave Errity & Kieran Durkan won 3&2, Maurice Ebbs & Shay Brennan lost on 17.

Metropolitan Cup

Commiserations to the Newlands team who were beaten by The Island on Monday 6th May.

Losing our three matches at hope sealed our fate.

JB Carr Trophy

Hard luck to our JB Carr who exited at the hands of a terrific Woodbrook team.

We lost 3-2 in the home fixture on Thur 2nd May.
