Past Captain Dermott Bradshaw wins Captain Owen’s Prize 2020

Congratulations to Past Captain Dermott Bradshaw,  the popular winner of Captain Owen Caugheys Prize 2020.

We had a superb day for great golf and the players didn’t disappoint. The sun shone from the first tee off at 9.00am to when the leading four qualifiers of Dermott Bradshaw, Paul Fox, Ian Mc Dunphy & Vice Captain Jim Fitzgerald drove at 2.00pm. You felt the winner was in that four ball.

The sunshine added to the day and the delicious burgers on the 10th tee helped to sustain body & soul. Despite the Covid-19 restrictions on using the clubhouse the members gathered round the gazebo to share beers, coffees, softdrinks, nibbles … and even some Christmas cake.

With Paul Errity, our Competition Secretary, beavering away on the results in the background in locked-down Kildare, the winner was declared around 6.30pm. Captain Owen presented Dermott with his fabulous Waterford Crystal prize on the putting green.

A formal presentation of all the Captain’s prizes to all the winners will be held at a future date once the restrictions have been lifted.

Honorable mention today went to Barry MacGabhann, a student member, who brought home an amazing 48 pts and to new member Peter Watt for a superb 39 pts on the day.

And well done to Jim McNeils who captured the Captain’s Plate

KIA certainly has the ‘Power to Surprise’

Another very successful Open was held on Thursday 20th August by the Ladies Section.   Thanks again to Rita and Gabriel Keane from Kia Motors for their continued sponsorship each year.

On Wednesday evening due to the extreme weather conditions, there were some doubts whether the outing would take place, but 37 teams(111 ladies) played in lovely, even if a little breezy, sunny weather.    Everyone was very complimentary on the magnificent way the course was presented despite the torrential rain on Wednesday.   A huge thanks to Gerry and his team for all their hard work ensuring that our course is in such great condition every week.

Congratulations to our winners on the day Orna Daly, Elizabeth Sheehan and Aisling O’Hara, all from Edmondstown Golf Club with a great score of 74pts.

Runners -up on day were Ger Simpson, Pat O’Dea an Clodagh Finnerty (Edmondstown) with 70 pts.

In Third Place was Carmel Bradshaw (Newlands), Patricia Wilson (Stackstown) and Miriam Morris (Craddockstown) with a score of 68 pts.

Our photos show Ger and Clodagh accepting their prize from our Sponsor Rita, and Captain Loretto thanking Rita and showing her appreciation by presenting her with a gift.

Light up your Darkness with Harkness!

Well, our Darkness was certainly lit up at our Club Invitation on Tuesday 18th November when Greg Harkness (Harkness Bros, Electrical) and Des Kenny (Frontline Mechanical and Electrical Services) sponsored our day.We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Greg and Des for the amazing prizes again this year, and indeed they are so generous and such a huge support every year to the Ladies Section.   There were many happy winners of prizes but our outright winners will be grilling with their amazing George Foreman grills for the rest of the summer.

Congratulations to the winners, Vice-Captain Jim Fitzgerald, Marie Fitzgerald, Nuala LeGros ad Vivian Giles who had an amazing score of 88pts

Esme is a very popular winner!!!!

There were great celebrations on Saturday evening when Captain Loretto announced her Captain’s Prize winner after the second day of her Captains Prize.   Winner Esme Murphy, playing off 2, was the popular winner within the whole club having scored 38pts on Day 1 and 37pts on Day 2.

This followed great excitement earlier in the day when Esme tee-off with her partners Mary O’Farrell and Madge Deane, followed in final 3-ball by Vice-Captain Carmel with 38pts, last years Captain Marie Harpur with  38pts and Captain Loretto’s daughter Grace leading with 40 pts.   They all played magnificently well over the 2 days with Esme just pipping them for victory.    Super achievement for Esme, where a large field went out to compete on two beautiful sunny days, which was a rarity this June.

Congratulations to all the winners on the day, especially Esme, who I hope enjoys many, many happy days wearing the prize.
