Shay Brennan presented the lovely prize to Ger and we say thanks Shay and the Wednesday Golf Society for their sponsorship and we wish them well for the rest of the season.

Well done to all the winners on the day.

Newlands in Sparkling Form in Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy

Newlands  vs Slade Valley  – 24th June 2019

The Mary McKenna team had a super win against Slade Valley on Monday evening.  No words could accurately describe the great golf that was played in the matches, the nail biting finish and the excitement of the win.  Anne Croft and Marie Fitzgerald put an early point on the board, winning on the 14th hole.  After that, the matches were very tight all the way round and so with two matches heading to the 19th hole,  Ger Simpson and Fionnuala Croskery won their match and our third point.  A hard earned point too, having come back from 3 down, to win on the 19th hole was very sweet.  Well done to a great team, Patricia Heffernan and Denise Tobin, Anne Croft and Marie Fitzgerald, Ger Simpson and Fionnuala Croskery, VC Loretto Keane and Frances Mahon, Bernie Keppel and Sophia McFadden, subs Pat O’Leary and Madge Deane, you were all absolutely brilliant, you represented Newlands so well and we are all so proud of you.

Congratulations to managers, Nuala LeGros and Mary K. O’Mahony, a well deserved win to book your spot in the Leinster semi-finals.

Our semi-final match will be against Borris, Co. Carlow, on Wednesday 10 July at 1:30 pm in Borris GC.

Neasa Wins Top Prize

Winner alright…

Congratulations to Neasa McKiernan who deservedly won Captain Marie Harpur’s prize after an amazing round of golf, scoring 43 point on the second day.  Playing off a handicap of 14 and with no score on the first hole, Neasa went on to have thirteen pars and 1 Birdie, to win the beautiful prize.

Played over the two sunniest days in June, a large field went out to compete on both days.  The two days of golf were enjoyed by all with the weather contributing to the great golf and all round enjoyment for everybody.

Congratulations and well done Neasa, a great achievement.  Congratulations to all the winners on the day, a great day followed by a great night of celebration of golf and friendship.

Ladies have a Win/Win Weekend

Junior Cup and Junior Foursomes march into Quarter Finals

All good news to report …

First up last week was the Junior Foursomes team against Killeen GC in Elm Park on Friday 14th June.  First points went to Wendy Hogan and Deborah McCready who won their match early to give the team a great start.  It wasn’t long before the pairing of VC Loretto Keane and Patricia Heffernan had their point in the bag also.  Last match out was 1 up when the pairing of Frances Mahon and Joan Sheridan were called in.    Congratulations to manager, Neasa McKiernan, assistant manager, Bernadette Flynn, all the players and subs.  A truly great win – we are absolutely delighted and look forward to the quarter finals.  Venue and opposition still to be confirmed.

So next up was the Junior Cup team playing against Old Conna on the O’Meara course in Carton House on Sunday 16th June.  An early point for Leoine Colgan, with Dad, Ray on her bag, gave the team the start we wanted.  Great way to spend Father’s Day!  A super team performance, Leonie Colgan, Pauline Curtis, Mary K. O’Mahony, AnneMarie Lawley and Louise Murphy made it a great weekend of golf for Newlands.  Congratulations to Manager, Siobhan Byrne and assistant manager, Louise Halpin.  Thank you to all the players, caddies and subs.   Well done to you all, great golf and we look forward to supporting you all in the quarter finals.

Just one shot in it……

The Ladies Senior Foursomes team played in the District Qualifier in Craddockstown GC on Sunday 9th June and unfortunately missed out on qualifying by just one point.  The team went out in the most horrendous conditions of the day and to miss out on qualifying by just one point is just heartbreaking.  As the early starters were in the clubhouse, our team battled the elements and still came in within a whisker of qualifying.  Many thanks to you all for representing us so well in a tough competition, we are very proud of you.   Well done and many thanks to team managers, Bernie Keppel and Babs Sweny, the players and subs for all the time and commitment to the Team of Us.
