It will be great opportunity for all his Newlands friends to wish him Bon Voyage!

The timesheet is now live for Members only so get your name down, come along for a fun afternoon of golf and wish Karl a wonderful next phase of his career.

Ladies Challenge Cup Match Report

Our Challenge Cup team took to the fairways to kick off our Inter Club campaign on Saturday, 23rd March.   These first-round matches started in brilliant sunshine at home as Liz Cogan with Nessa McKiernan as caddie, Lylia Crossan with her caddie Marie Dunne and Aisling Curtis with Dad, Ciaran on her bag, played their hearts out in a very tough test.    While we were willing the team at home over the line, Angelique Scolard with caddie Wendy Hogan and Helena O’Connell with Hilary Kenny as caddie, were battling it out down in Naas Golf Club.   There it took 20 holes to separate the two teams but luck was not on our side as the light faded and the honours went to Naas Golf Club.  Lylia was also on to her 20th hole when she was called in.

This Challenge Cup team played brilliantly and the matches were very tight right up to the very end.  The players can take a bow, not giving up easily and they did Newlands proud.  Well done and lucky us, we get to do it all again next year!

Appointment of new PGA Club Professional

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Cosgrove as our PGA Professional and he will join us on April 11th.

Brian will be joining us from Killeen Golf Club at Kill, County Kildare, where he joined as PGA Head Professional in 2011 and became Director of Golf in 2015.
Brian learned his golf at Carne Golf Club in Mayo and completed an Honours Degree in Sports Science at University of Limerick in 2003.

He was attached to Milltown Golf Club and Rathsallagh Golf Club as an Assistant Professional before opening his own golf academy in Athy in 2009, prior to joining Killeen Golf Club. Brian has a Class AA PGA status and is a PGA Sports Science Tutor at the PGA Training Academy HQ at The Belfry.

He has been heavily involved in supporting team activities at Killeen Golf Club which has celebrated 5 Mens Leinster pennants in recent years. Brian was also a Special Olympics Golf Tutor in 2010/2011. On the fairways, Brian was part of the Irish team which won the TGI Partnership Trophy at St. Andrews in 2018, winning four matches and halving one.

Please welcome Brian and his staff, we wish him a very successful career at Newlands.

Our sincere thanks to the subcommittee of Aidan Keogh (Convenor), Grainne Friel, Eamon Keating, Genevieve Tracy and Dermot Usher, which conducted a very professional campaign to secure the services of Brian as our PGA Professional.

Bumper Day Bliss

What a wonderful day….

Who could have imagined that we would be playing golf in such beautiful sunshine in late February.  Thankfully any beasts from the east or west stayed where they were and this ensured we had the most wonderful day.  We had a great field of players and a super winner of our Bumper Day in Louise Halpin.  A winning score of 25 pts put her to the top of the leaderboard and we all send our congratulations to Louise.  Well done also to the other Bumper Day prize winners; we hope you enjoy the beautiful prizes.

We also celebrated the winners of our Winter League Singles competition which was won by Team 11, captained by Lylia Crossan, who was delighted to speak on behalf of the team and express their pleasure in winning.    Second placed Team 9 were also happy to accept their runner up prizes.  See details of winning teams below.

Many thanks to Bliss Cuisine for their generous sponsorship of the Winter League.  It is very much appreciated.

I feel we were all winners on the day as we were all together on Tuesday evening to celebrate another great day in Newlands.
