Owen Caughey nominated as Vice Captain for 2019.

I am delighted to announce and nominate Owen Caughey as my Vice Captain for 2019.

Owen has been a member of Newlands since 1979 and has been a great servant to Newlands Golf Club.  He has been a Bloom Cup winner and has also represented Newlands in the Leinster Fourball, Best Cup and the JB Carr Trophy. In recent years he has managed the JB Carr Trophy with great enthusiasm.

Owen has served on the Building Sub-Committee of the Club and has been a member of the Management Committee for the past three years.

Owen has given selfless time and commitment to Newlands and I am very pleased that he has accepted my invitation to be my Vice Captain and work with the Ladies Club incoming Captain, Marie Harpur and Vice-Captain, Loretto Keane to the benefit of all Newlands members.

Vice-Captain Marie announces her nomination for Vice-Captain 2019

I am absolutely delighted to announce Loretto Keane as my nomination for Vice-Captain for 2019. Loretto was greeted by a standing ovation although it was probably no surprise to all present that Loretto was nominated for the role of Vice-Captain.

Since joining Newlands, Loretto has represented Newlands on numerous teams, she has also managed the Revive team for three years, taking them all the way to the All Ireland finals in 2016. Loretto has also served on several committees, including four years as Handicap Secretary. Loretto is also involved in the organisation of the Away Day every year making the trip a success year after year so myself and Loretto are well used to working together.

Loretto will be a huge asset to Newlands Golf Club. I am looking forward to us working together, along with the Management team, incoming Men’s Club Captain Lex Flavin and his committee, for the good of all the sections in Newlands Golf Club in 2019.

Newlands win the Restalux Trophy

A competition between ourselves Edmonstown, and Rathfarnham has taken place annually since 1979. Our successes have been scarce of late, but this year, having given ourselves a commanding lead on our home course, we hung on in the final leg to win by 3 points.

It is therefore with great pleasure that I can let you know that for the first time since 2012, our names goes on the Restalux Trophy.

Congratulations and well done to everyone who played so well.

Current Winners of Past Captains

Congratulations to Genevieve Tracy, Deirdre Balfe, Denis O’Brien, and Dermot Bradshaw who won the past Captains’ golfing event, held on Friday, 5th October last. This illustrious bunch were very competitive, and the winners only scraped over the line with a point or two to spare.

They are pictured with the organisers, former Captains Siobhán Byrne and Paddy Butler.

Trophies Presentation Night

Some photos from the annual Trophy night held in the clubhouse on Saturday October 6th last. This year we had the added excitement of Bloom Cup manager Denis Morris present the Bloom Cup and Pennant on behalf of the victorious Bloom Cup Team to Captain Jack
