Congratulations to Vice Captain Pam on her Hole in One

Congratulations to Vice Captain Pam who had a hole in one on the fourth on Saturday 18th November.  It’s just reward for the hours of practice put in by Pam over the last few weeks as she delivered the ultimate shot in golf and recorded her first hole in one.

As she gears up for the exciting year ahead, it’s good to know that the golf is in good shape, and her putting hasn’t even been tested yet.  Time to return Captain Siobhan’s putting aid!!   Well done Pam.  #PowerfulStrike  #Power2Pam

Vice-Captain Pam introduces her nominee for Vice-Captain 2018 – Marie Harpur

At the Ladies Bumper dinner, and Club Trophies Presentation on Tuesday last, 24th October 2017, Vice-Captain Pam proposed, Marie Harpur as her nominee for Vice-Captain of the Ladies Club for 2018. A very popular choice, the announcement was greeted with universal approval by all those present.

Marie, together with her husband David, and son James, has been a member of Newlands for many years, she has served on several committees, has represented Newlands in inter-Club matches, and in all of these roles has shown initiative, leadership and dedication. She is a keen bridge player, and always willing to take a gamble to make a contract!

Our 2017 Vice-Captain Pam, commented how deserving Marie was of the honour and how she looked forward to working with her, alongside Captain Jack and his nominee Lex Flavin (and we send Lex the congratulations of everyone in the Ladies Section) and the Management Team for the good of Newlands Golf Club in 2018.

The Annual Captain (Siobhán) -v- Hon Sec (Susan Dunphy) match was fiercely competitive

Played annually since 1933, the Ladies Annual Captain -v- Hon Sec match (Captain Siobhán v Hon Sec Susan Dunphy) took place last Friday 20th October, 2017.

While in 1933 the competition was intended to be a match play event by the then Captain of the Ladies Section, Ms Evans, it has in recent years been played as a team event.

Bereft of a trophy for the entire season, the Captain was thrilled to hear that her team had the winning score – ‘the turkeys’ took the honours, and the Captain’s name will go into the history books.

Thank you so much to all the Ladies who baked the simply delicious cakes for the after-match refreshments. And as life is too short to say no to cake, it was a feast with friends. #StillStuffed
