19th Hole Agony for Barton Cup team
19th Hole Agony for Barton Cup team The Newlands team suffered an agonising loss in their Barton Cup match against Hermitage on Sunday. The two home matches were shared with AJ Crinnion and Kieran Durkan recoding a fine 2&1 win in the top match. James O’Driscoll and Damien Long never got going and went down 3&2. It was very tense over in the Hermitage. The top match Dave Dempsey and Aidan Reynolds came from 4 down to level the match after 18…. They were going up the 21st, and looking good, when called in. Mark Dunne and Paul Gavin were involved in a top class match with great figures. It came down to the 18th where the hermitage player cut a 3 iron under a tree and ran to the ball up to 4 feet to win the match. In the last match Alec Myles was playing with Sean Flanagan, making his Newlands Debut after a lifetime in the club. Like the second match the golf was spectacularly good. Eventually they ended up all square after 18. On the 19th Newlands were safely on the green about 20 feet from the back pin location. Hermitage were short of the green in 2. To the amazement of all around, the Hermitage players held out his third shot to bring victory to his team.
