Inter Club Match News – 28^th June 2011

 

It was a busy time for Inter Club golf in Newlands over the last week. Six teams took to the field with varying degrees of success.

 

On Sunday the 19^th June the Jimmy Bruen squad under the management of Aidan Keogh and Alan Dunning took part in the Metropolitan Qualifying section in Malahide. The team was a mix of youth and experience and although they did not qualify it was a great opportunity to build for the future. Our thanks to Aidan and Alan.

 

Last Thursday our Junior Foursomes team just came up short in the Qualifying round in Dublin City. Many thanks to managers Peter Myles and Paddy Butler for their commitment and dedication.

 

Congratulations to Irish Mixed Foursomes team who won a very tight match on Friday night last with one match going to Newlands on the 20^th in Dublin City and another called in from the 19th. They have now reached the 5^th round of the competition, a feat not achieved for many years, and eagerly await news of their next opponents. Well done to the team and their managers Dave Weber and Annemarie Hughes.

 

The Metropolitan Qualifying section of the Senior Cup, in which eighteen teams participated, was hosted very successfully by Newlands over the weekend. Hard luck to our lads who just missed out in a titanic struggle against Elm Park on Saturday.  Our thanks to Senior Cup managers Tony Brannock and Paddy Butler for their commitment and dedication. Congratulations to Castle and Hermitage on winning through to the Leinster Finals in the K Club.

 

Congratulations to our Bloom Cup team, the current holders, managed by Sean McEvoy and John O’Sullivan who reached the Semi Finals with a great win over Ballinascorney on Sunday. They won all home matches and achieved the necessary half match away to complete the victory.

 

Congratulations to our Ladies Junior Cup Team on another successful outing in Malahide against the Island yesterday. Well done  and the best of luck to the team and the manager Margaret Hughes when we meet in Balbrigan against Howth at 2pm on July 17th. in the Quarter Finals.

 

 

Our Junior Cup team are already in the Leinster Finals which will be held at Greenore Golf Club on 23^rd & 24^th July.
